In 1970, two new hydropneumatic cars were launched, the GS and SM. Both of these vehicles made use of the simplified braking system that was fitted to the ID. The SM used high pressure hydraulics to operate the power steering system - DIRAVI or VARIPOWER which employed variable, speed-related assistance coupled with powered return resulting in very direct steering.
