Citroën C-Crosser

* Go-anywhere four-wheel drive transmission

With its four-wheel drive transmission and mode selection system, the C-Crosser can go anywhere in all weather conditions in complete safety.

* Intelligent four-wheel drive

The generous torque from the C-Crosser's HDi engine is distributed electronically between the front and rear wheels for optimal roadholding and traction based on grip conditions measured by, among others, vehicle speed, the difference in speed between the front and rear axles and the pressure on the accelerator pedal.
A transfer box fit on the gearbox output sends torque to the back wheels via a longitudinal drive shaft. An electronically controlled clutch located upstream of the rear axle ensures that some of the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels.
The advantage of this system is that drivers get all the roadholding and grip of four-wheel drive transmission whenever necessary while limiting fuel consumption by sending only the torque that is needed to the back wheels.
For maximum safety, transmission management is combined with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with disconnect and ASR traction control to optimise the functioning of the system. This equipment is standard for all trim levels.

* All-wheel drive for all desires

Depending on grip conditions and desired driving style, drivers choose between three transmission management modes: two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and Lock mode. These are selected using a single control, positioned behind the gear stick, with a symbol on the instrument cluster informing drivers of current mode.

* 2WD: Front-wheel drive 2WD mode used for good grip conditions, reducing fuel consumption and boosting agility.

* 4WD: This mode is recommended for tougher conditions because it splits torque automatically between front and rear axles. An electronic control unit (ECU) sends part of the torque to the back wheels based on grip conditions, ensuring the best roadholding in all circumstances with no incidence on fuel consumption.

* LOCK: In this mode, the ECU sends 1.5 times more torque to the back wheels than in 4WD mode. LOCK mode is particularly well suited to extreme driving conditions.

High-level passive safety

* A structure that protects passengers and pedestrians

Citroën made extensive work on the structure of the C-Crosser to meet the most stringent standards on passive safety.
The Marque reinforced the body by using high-resistance steel to limit crumpling in the event of impact. The C-Crosser also features specially designed front side members that improve energy absorption, as do the padding and reinforcement bars in the doors that protect occupants in the event of side impact.
All of these features give the C-Crosser's structure the stiffness necessary to protecting occupants in high-speed impact and the flexibility needed to absorb lighter impact.
In addition, the front end of the C-Crosser was designed to ensure "crash compatibility" with conventional vehicles. The C-Crosser thus effectively protects its passengers while reducing the risk of injury for occupants in other vehicles.
Finally, to limit the consequences of pedestrian impact, the C-Crosser is equipped with:
- boot and wings designed to crumple, with ample space between the panels and the internal structure to absorb impact,
- bumpers fitted with polyurethane foam that absorb energy in such a way as to reduce injury to the legs.

* Six airbags standard

The C-Crosser is fitted as standard with two front airbags (driver and passenger), two front side airbags and two front/rear curtain airbags.
The two front airbags are adaptive, with deployment pressure and volume correlated with the severity of the impact.
The passenger airbag can be deactivated using the ignition key, in order to install a child seat at the front. An indicator on the instrument cluster informs the driver that the airbag has been deactivated.

* Efficient restraint systems

All the seats in the C-Crosser (5+2) are fitted with safety belts with three anchor points. Driver and front passenger belts also feature pyrotechnic pretensioners and load limiters, to reduce pressure on the chest in the event of impact.
If front passengers are not buckled up or safety belts are unfastened in row two during the journey, an alarm is signalled and a message appears on the instrument cluster.
Finally, Isofix anchor points are available for fixing child seats to the side seats in row two.

FUNCTIONAL AND COMFORTABLE INTERIOR

The C-Crosser is a true family car with its 5+2 seat configuration boasting easy-to-use modularity. The vehicle's generous dimensions (2.67-metre wheelbase) house comfortable living space, numerous stowage compartments and an enormous boot with a split tailgate for easy loading.
The C-Crosser adds the agreeable to the practical with a range of sophisticated equipment for extra onboard comfort.
