Citroën at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2003

Citroën's stylish C8 is on display

CITROËN C8 EXECUTIVE PEOPLE-CARRIER:
A CLEAR SUCCESS
The C8 has enjoyed considerable success since its market launch in June 2002. Citroën sold 14,900 vehicles in the first half of 2003, almost double the total number of Evasion/Synergie sales over a comparable period.
This enthusiastic welcome confirms the potential of the C8 with its contemporary styling, welcoming passenger compartment and power sliding side doors. These features are combined with an ultra-resistant structure and a range of protective equipment whose efficiency is reflected by the 5 stars won by the C8 in EuroNCAP tests.
AN EVEN WIDER RANGE WITH THE 2.0 HDi 16V ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The Citroën C8 2.0 HDi 16V became available with automatic auto-adaptive gearbox in June 2003. This model is the third C8 to offer this type of transmission. It reflects Citroën’s efforts to offer an alternative to conventional gearboxes and to meet the needs of an increasingly broad customer base.
The 2.0 HDi engine fitted with the particulate filter develops 79 kW (109 bhp) with maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Working with the automatic gearbox, it delivers driving pleasure and economy-in-use (8 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle). It also respects the environment (elimination of black fumes and particulates).
C8: RECOGNISED QUALITIES
Modern and appealing style
Styling was one of the main priorities in the development of the C8. The modern lines clearly identify the C8 as a member of the Citroën family.
The high-tech interior styling features a dashboard of clean design lines and a central instrument cluster. The overall impact is one of boldly innovative design, in a passenger compartment that combines modern looks with a sense of well-being.
Superior travel qualities
The electric opening mechanism of the sliding side doors ensures easy access. A range of control functions are available. For example, the driver can open or close the doors from the front seats without getting out of the car, or open them from a distance using the remote control.
The C8 meets a full range of passenger requirements with up to eight highly modular seats that can be fitted in many and varied configurations. The rear seats, for example, slide over 15 cm and are fitted with Quickfix®, an innovative, patented, instant anchoring system that is simple to use.
Almost sixty cleverly designed and easily accessible stowage compartments are distributed around the cabin for all passengers.
The modular design of the seats makes it possible to adjust the boot volume from 225 dm3 (under parcel shelf, rear seats pushed back to the limit) to 1,160 dm3 (under parcel shelf, rear seats pushed forward to row 2) or 2,948 dm3 (maximum volume to row 1) according to the occupants’ immediate needs.
The front seats feature a host of functions with, for example, electrical controls, a heating system, a pivoting mechanism and an adjustable, removable armrest, depending on trim levels.
The modular, automatic air-conditioning system splits the passenger compartment into four climate areas.
A wide range of comfort and safety equipment
In addition to its dynamic qualities, the C8 offers a wide range of equipment and functions to improve the driver’s concentration and ensure that he is in full command of the vehicle:
- an emergency braking assistance system,
- a low tyre-pressure warning system,
- hazard warning lights activated automatically by strong braking,
- electronic parking assistance,
- dual-function xenon lamps (low- and high-beam) coupled with an additional halogen lamp for the high-beam function,
- traction control and ESP,
- cruise control,
- a programmable excess speed warning that allows the driver to select a maximum speed. If the car exceeds this speed, an audible alarm sounds and a message is displayed on the multifunction screen,
- an electrochrome interior rearview mirror
- headlamps activated in the event of rain or low daylight,
- side and rear curtains,
- an automatic windscreen wiper.
The C8 has all the qualities required to fully satisfy the needs of passengers while respecting their individual wishes. It bears testimony to the remarkable impetus shown by Citroën in recent years, illustrated by a rich, diversified and young range of models.
