In the aftermath of World War 2, Citroën inititated what was the world's first motor vehicle lease plan, directed primarily at American service personnel and tourists. The deal benefitted both the client and the company since there were restrictions on manufacturing vehicles for the domestic market and if the purchaser chose to buy a car for export and then sold it back to the factory, upon payment of taxes the vehicle could then be sold on the home market.
This brochure dating from the early nineteen-fifties explains the process.
