A

Citroën
is unveiling its new high-spec people-carrier, the
C8, at the Geneva
Motor Show. Spurred forward by the momentum of its
success over the
past few years, Citroën is continuing to renew its
range and to build
its image as an innovative and modern brand.
After the successful launch of
the Xsara
Picasso, the Citroën C8 renews the top end
of the people-carrier range to bring customers a
young and complete family of vehicles.
The
Citroën C8 is designed to satisfy customer needs
by focusing on the
essential qualities of people-carriers with
respect to space, interior
layout and modular design. Looking beyond these
qualities, the C8 is
the first in a new generation of high-spec people
carriers. Its
exterior design lines and interior layout mark a
clear break with
current styling practices on the people-carrier
segment.

Bright, modern and dynamic
exterior styling
Styling
was one of the main priorities in the development
of the C8, which is
visibly different from its main competitors. The
modern, dynamic lines
express a creativity that clearly identifies the
C8 as a member of the
Citroën family. Moreover, the C8 fits perfectly
with the ongoing
renewal of the Citroën range, conveying the image
of a high-status,
high-spec vehicle.

An original, high-tech
cabin with unusual interior design schemes

|
The
interior reflects the contemporary styling of the
exterior, while
reinforcing the general impression of space and
light. The dashboard is
of distinctive design with pure flowing lines and a
completely new
arch-shaped upper section. The arch encloses a
central instrument
cluster with three dials of original design. This
architecture creates
a "light well" between the upper and lower parts of
the dashboard,
which acts as a source of exceptional natural light.
The immense 2m2
windscreen creates an impression of being open to
the outside world and
letting the light flood in while the seats, interior
trim and materials
express contemporary values and well-being. The C8
offers customers a
choice of three bright, original interior design
schemes. Each one uses
different materials and colours to give the
passenger compartment a
completely different look.

THE PLEASURE OF TRAVELLING
WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS
|
|
|
The
C8 is designed as a living area that has been
planned to ensure an
enjoyable journey for all the occupants. This
encompasses all aspects
of vehicle design, from accessibility to boot volume
and modularity.
The
electric opening mechanism of the sliding side doors
with their
intelligently placed controls ensures easy access in
all circumstances.
The interior is bigger than on
the Evasion/Synergie,
notably with respect to cabin length, head room and
boot volume.
The
C8 meets all passenger requirements with its many
and varied
configurations and exemplary modularity, with up to
eight seats. The
rear seats, for example, can slide over 15 cm and
are fitted with
Quickfix®, a new, patented, instant anchoring system
that allows users
to move seats quickly and easily.
Almost sixty cleverly designed
and easily accessible stowage compartments are
distributed around the cabin for all passengers.
The
C8 has all the qualities required to fully satisfy
the needs of
passengers while respecting their individual wishes.
The modular,
automatic air-conditioning system splits the
passenger compartment into
four climate areas: individual comfort for shared
travelling enjoyment.
Last, the C8 features multiplex
electrics that are similar to those of the C5.
This system provides the basis for a host of comfort
and safety
functions, including: remote-controlled opening of
the windows to
provide ventilation, exterior rearview mirrors that
fold back
automatically when the vehicle is locked, and
energy-consuming
functions (such as radio and lights) that switch off
automatically if
they are not used for 30 minutes after the engine is
turned off. Some
of these functions can be activated or deactivated
in line with
customer requirements.

A REFERENCE IN MANY AREAS
|
|
Exemplary driving pleasure
|
|
|
The
adaptable driving position, excellent road manners
and powerful engines
on offer with the C8 ensure superlative driving
pleasure.
The Citroën C8 offers a
complete range of petrol and diesel engines.
The
petrol range is made up of three engines, with
power levels ranging
from 100 kW ECE (138 bhp DIN) to 150 kW ECE (208
bhp DIN) for the V6,
with a 2.2 litre 116 kW ECE engine (160 bhp DIN)
available in the
Citroën range for the first time. All the engines
comply with the
future Euro 4 standard, which will come into
effect on 1 January 2005.
The
diesel range is based on two 16-valve 4-cylinder
common-rail direct
injection HDi engines of 79 kW ECE (109 bhp DIN)
and 94 kW ECE (130 bhp
DIN). Combining driving pleasure with low fuel
consumption, these
engines stand as references in their category. In
addition to their
intrinsic qualities, these powerplants also take a
major step forwards
in environmental protection in that they are
fitted with the
particulate filter, a technology that remains
unique.
An auto-adaptive
automatic gearbox
with sequential control will be available on the
2.0i 16V version. The
V6 version will be fitted with a similar gearbox
as standard.

Unshakeable trust
|
|
|
Safety
is based on a global approach that encompasses such
aspects as on-board
well-being, dynamic qualities and impact resistance
satisfying the most
stringent criteria.
The C8
boasts excellent dynamic qualities. New running gear
is combined with
standard equipment including ABS with electronic
brakeforce
distribution and emergency braking assistance.
The
range of equipment available is completed by ESP ASR
(traction
control), a low tyre pressure detection function,
electronic parking
assistance, Xenon lamps and lights that come on
automatically.
The
C8 is well protected against all types of impact
with such features as
a reinforced structure, six airbags, two of which
are curtain bags to
protect customers in all three rows, and front wings
made of a
composite material.
The C8 is also fitted with a wide
range of functions to ensure child safety:
-
a
safety function activated from the driver's seat
disables the controls
of the sliding side doors, electric windows and
rear sunroofs;
-
an anti-pinch function on
the electric sliding side doors, windows and
sunroofs (slide function) prevents risk;
-
automatic disabling of
electric side door controls when the car is
moving at a speed of more than 5 km/h;
-
a
foldaway mirror lets the front passengers keep
an eye on children in
the back without turning round or adjusting the
interior rearview
mirror.
